Here's what experience has taught...

"Praxis" is the customary practice or conduct of an art, science or skill.  In essence, it's the philosophic basis or set of ideas about how something should be done.

My father once said to me, "Listen to the old farts 'cause they know what they're talking about."  Time and again I've found that to be solid advice.  Inching upward in years I've learned a few things to share with you, but if you have a tip that's not listed, please send an e-mail.

 

Crew Leadership -- How to lead your crew of workers and treat them well.
Situation Awareness -- Being alert to your current situation and the numerous ways in which it may change.
Problem Management -- Assessment of emergencies, determining need for evacuation.

Photography -- A few how-to's of field photography, advantages of digital cameras over film.
Flat Tires -- Tips with regard to safely changing tires in the field.
Private Property -- What to do and what NOT to do, dangers of working on private land, spirit of cooperation.
Samples -- Suggestions for labeling research samples and private collections, sample bags & canisters.
Take a Buddy -- Hazards of going into the field alone.
Take Care of You -- The top three occupational hazards of being a geologist.
Watch the Weather -- Responsibilities of crew leaders, basic forecasting in the field (under research), etc.
Environment -- Exercising due regard for delicate environments, philosophy of stewardship, etc.
