Flat Tires

PARENT PAGE

Learn how to properly change a tire in off-road conditions.  Loose sand, gullies, steep slopes, mud, the vehicle's load, and even the weather (rainy or cold) will all conspire against safety here.

A single vehicle suffering three flat tires in one day is not unheard of.

It's far better to damage a rim by driving to a suitable spot for a tire change than it is to crush someone's hand or foot under the vehicle.  Further, this is a skill that will come in handy more often than you might think.

Before and after images of a Jeep that suffered a serious flat.  If the spare has already been used, this will require removing the wheel, cleaning things up, patching the hole (if necessary), reseating the bead, and finally, inflating the tire.  Obviously, that will take a lot of time, tools and expertise.
