PARENT PAGE Health Concerns Insurance Safety Overseas

The little time you spend researching your destination now could save you time and trouble abroad, if not your life.  According to the U.S. State Department, an average of 6,000 US citizens die overseas every year.  Others are involved in traffic accidents or serious illnesses.  These episodes might have been prevented with a little planning and information.  As a field geologist, you'll be exposed to a higher potential for accidents and illnesses, but you can combat this if you're prepared.

Health -- Inoculations and proof thereof, water sanitation, concerns regarding personal medications, etc.
Insurance -- emergency evacuations for political/medical reasons, property and medical coverage, etc.
Safety -- foreign aircraft and highway infrastructures, political and religious unrest, social mores, etc.
