Take Care of You

PARENT PAGE

Reportedly, the three leading causes of death to geologists are (in no particular order): traffic accidents, skin cancer, and falling off an outcrop.  The pitfalls making such a demise easy to come by are also easily avoided:

  • Wear your seatbelt!  If you want to know what it's like to be in an accident without a seatbelt on, look at the squashed bugs on the windshield.  You've had physics classes, so what makes you think the same thing won't happen to you.  After all, the only difference is that you're inside of the car.

  • Wear sunscreen!  Get a sweat-proof variety that blocks UV-A and UV-B rays.  It will say this on the bottle, so check.  Not all brands do this.

  • Learn basic climbing techniques!  Most climbing gyms offer inexpensive courses in rappelling, free-hand climbing, and more technical types of mountaineering.  Often, no experience or gear is necessary, and training is often one-on-one.

As an additional note, see the tip on smoking.
